Description
Champagne Lanson makes Le Black Creation 259 in the Champagne region as the successor to its long-running Black Label. The cuvee blends the three classic grapes across many terroirs, drawn from a deep library of reserve wines spanning more than twenty years, with part of that reserve held in stainless steel and part in wooden barrels for extra depth. It is made by the traditional method and matures around four years in the cellars before release. A defining trait is the house preference for avoiding malolactic fermentation, which keeps the wine bright, vibrant and long-lived, finished as a Brut.
Expect a brilliant gold with amber highlights and a fine, persistent bead. The nose opens on Williams pear, apple and citrus with fresh pastry, and the barrel-aged reserves add brioche and dried fruit. The palate carries ripe fruit and mandarin, lemon and grapefruit on lively acidity, closing balanced and long. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a tulip glass. It suits scallops, oysters and lobster, delicate fish and mature hard cheese.
