This Master's Selection is a single-cask St Lucia rum from the Saint Lucia Distillers, a 2001 vintage aged nineteen years and bottled unsweetened at a formidable 65.4%. Pot-distilled on a John Dore still, it is a powerful, oak-driven expression for experienced palates rather than a gentle sipper.
Nearly two decades in ex-bourbon oak have built a deep, dry profile, sour cherry and dark dried fruit over leather, roasted notes and heavy toasted oak, with a cooling menthol streak running through the finish. At cask strength and single cask, with no added sugar, it drinks intense, complex and layered, the high proof amplifying both the fruit and the wood. A drop of water opens it up, and it sits naturally alongside cask-strength Foursquare and other dry, oak-led rums, a serious St Lucia for slow, attentive sipping.
