A fifteen year single cask Saint Lucia from Chairman’s Reserve at cask strength, dry and dark with black tea, menthol, leather, tobacco and cedar oak, a contemplative, cigar friendly heavyweight at 59.3%.
Description
Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection, the 2005 German edition, is a single cask Saint Lucian rum distilled on a pot still at the Saint Lucia Distillers and bottled at cask strength. At fifteen years and 59.3 percent it is unsweetened, dry and intense, a serious bottling for experienced drinkers that showcases the heavier, pot still side of the island. The 2005 vintage gives it the depth to match its power.
Matured in ex bourbon wood, it leans dark and savoury, with black tea, leather, oak and tobacco on the nose moving to a spicy, minty palate with caramel, then a herbal, menthol tinged dry finish. Cedar heavy oak and subtle fruit run underneath, giving it a contemplative, almost dirty Trinidad like edge. The strength is well carried, intense but coherent, rewarding slow sipping and a little airtime to open up. It makes a fine cigar companion, a powerful and characterful pour for those who enjoy dry, dark, herbal Saint Lucia rum.
