The sixth edition of Saint Lucia’s Chairman’s Reserve 1931, a 12 year old island blend at 46% with toffee, fudge and vanilla over a full bodied, toasted core and a dry, smoky tobacco edge through the finish.
Description
Chairman's Reserve 1931 is the flagship annual blend from Saint Lucia Distillers, and this is the sixth edition, a 12 year old release at 46%. The 1931 line is a marriage of the distillery's different still types, pot and column, drawn from across its molasses rum stocks and matured largely in ex-bourbon wood.
The house character comes through in a toffee and vanilla nose and a full bodied, intense palate of fudge and toasted notes, while the finish turns drier with citrus and a charred, smoky tobacco edge that recalls bourbon and cola. At 46% it has presence without heat, a sturdy and characterful sipper that rewards attention. As an annual edition each release shifts slightly in emphasis, and this one leans toward the firm, toasted and tobacco tinged side of the 1931 profile, a well structured island blend for unhurried drinking.
