Description
Chairman's Reserve 1931 2017 is a hybrid blend from the Saint Lucia Distillers, combining rums made from both molasses and fresh cane juice across pot, column and agricole stills, a setup that gives this island its unusually varied character. At six years and 46 percent it is well balanced and approachable, yet carries more interest than the standard range. The 1931 line is the distillery's annual showcase of its blending breadth.
Matured in ex bourbon wood, it sits between Spanish, French and English rum styles thanks to that mixed distillation, showing tobacco, vanilla, caramel and dried dates with a light agricole freshness from the cane juice component. The palate adds coffee and dried fruit, finishing peppery, woody and dry. It never turns heavy or aggressive, balancing depth with drinkability, and the oak keeps it from cloying. It makes a fine casual sipper or dessert pairing, offering a bit more interest and Saint Lucia funk than an everyday bottle.
