Cérvoles make this organic and biodynamic white in the D.O. Costers del Segre, blending Chardonnay, Macabeo and Albariño. A period of skin contact adds texture to a fresh inland white of green apple, citrus and white peach.
Description
Colors De Les Garrigues Blanc comes from Cérvoles, a producer in the high inland D.O. Costers del Segre in Catalonia, and is farmed organically and biodynamically. It blends Chardonnay, Macabeo and Albariño, three varieties that bring body, structure and aromatic lift respectively. Costers del Segre is a dry, continental region with harsh, cold winters and hot, sunny days, and the wide swing between daytime heat and cool nights lets the fruit ripen fully while keeping fresh acidity. The wine sees a period of skin contact, where the juice rests on the grape skins before or during fermentation, drawing out extra aromatic compounds, a little phenolic grip and more texture than a standard white pressing would give. There is no heavy oak influence, so the fruit and that gentle structure lead. The colour is bright straw. The nose shows green apple, lemon and white peach with a floral note and a touch of citrus peel from the skin contact. The palate is dry and textured, fuller than its alcohol suggests, with a savoury, faintly grippy finish. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees, ideally in a larger glass to show the texture.
