Description
Cervoles Colors de les Garrigues is made by Cervoles Celler in the D.O. Costers del Segre in inland Catalonia, and blends Garnacha Tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The region has a continental climate, with cold winters and very hot summers and an average temperature around fourteen to fifteen degrees. The grapes come from estate vineyards planted in the late 1970s, across ten plots at altitudes between 700 and 750 metres. That altitude is the key to the wine: it brings cool nights and a wide day-to-night temperature swing that slows ripening, preserves acidity and keeps the aromatics fresh despite the summer heat. This is the estate's younger, fresher style, with little or no oak ageing to keep the primary fruit clear and lively. The wine is bright and deep in the glass. The nose leads with red cherry and plum over darker berry fruit and a light peppery, herbal note. The palate is medium bodied, fresh and structured, with fine tannin from the Cabernet and Merlot, bright acidity and a savoury, stony finish. Serve at 15 to 17C. Good with grilled meat, roast lamb and mushroom dishes.
