Description
The Vulcano Collection is a Nicaraguan rum from Compania Licorera under the Cerro Negro name, carrying a 1989 vintage that points to long-laid stock. It is a column-distilled molasses spirit in the Spanish-style mould, where the clean base hands its character over to the cask and the years.
Time in wood has pulled it well past golden into roasted, after-dinner territory. The aroma is coffee, cocoa, vanilla and caramel, the palate dark chocolate and roasted coffee threaded with oak, and the finish chocolatey and woody with a return of vanilla. At 42% it drinks as a rich, dark sipper built around roasted and cocoa tones rather than overt sweetness, suited to slow evenings and a square of dark chocolate alongside.
