Centenario Fundacion is a Costa Rican rum built on the solera method, in which older and younger rums are progressively blended so the final spirit is consistent and rounded. The number on the label is a solera reference rather than a guarantee of years in the barrel, worth bearing in mind: this is a column distilled molasses rum made in the soft, smooth Latin American idiom rather than a single old vintage.

The character is gentle and sweet, with vanilla, caramel and warm oak leading into a soft, round finish and very little alcohol heat. The sweetness here is real and part of the appeal, placing it among the sugared, dessert leaning rums that prize smoothness above all; it is honest comfort drinking rather than a dry, structured sipper. For relaxed, no-thinking pours or pairing with something sweet after dinner, it slips down with ease at 40%.
