Centenario 7 Años Añejo Especial

Centenario is the rum line of Fabrica Nacional de Licores in Costa Rica, and the 7 Anos Anejo Especial is its accessible everyday expression, a classic column still molasses rum bottled at 40 percent. It is built for approachability rather than depth, surprisingly woody for its youth and aimed squarely at relaxed pours and mixed drinks.

Column distillation keeps the spirit clean and light, while ageing in the Costa Rican climate lends quick colour and a soft, rounded body. The nose runs to caramel, vanilla, oak and creme brulee, the palate carries honey, caramel and a clear sweetness, and the finish turns drier and a touch bitter with oak, dried fruit and a wisp of smoke. It is uncomplicated and friendly, best understood as a soft sipper or a dependable base for cola and other long drinks rather than a contemplative dram.
