A Costa Rican from Fabrica Nacional de Licores under the Centenario name, column still and softly sweet with butterscotch, vanilla, caramel and chocolate over light oak and a cherry tinged finish at 43%.
Description
Centenario 1985 Cask Selection is a molasses rum from Costa Rica, produced by Fabrica Nacional de Licores under the Centenario brand. Distilled on a column still and bottled at 43%, it sits in the soft, smooth Spanish heritage style of Central American rum, an approachable, sweet leaning pour designed for easy drinking rather than bold intensity.
The nose offers butterscotch, vanilla and a roasted note with a little alcohol lift, while the palate is woody and sweet with caramel, vanilla and chocolate. The finish is mild and gently spicy with a cherry edge. It benefits from a little time in the glass to come together, the cherry and sweet wood notes settling alongside a pleasant spiciness and fruit. This is a beginner friendly, dessert leaning rum, smooth and undemanding, more about soft caramel and vanilla comfort than depth or power, well suited to relaxed sipping for those who like their rum on the sweeter side.
