Viñas del Cénit revives an old co-planted field blend in Tierra del Vino de Zamora, fermenting red and white varieties together. Six months in oak give a youthful, cherry-red wine with vibrant red fruit and a fresh, savoury character.
Description
Cénit Field Blend Bonales comes from Viñas del Cénit in VC Tierra del Vino de Zamora, in Castilla y León, and revives the old local practice of co-planting and co-fermenting whatever the vineyard grew. The blend brings together Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and the white grapes Doña Blanca, Godello and Palomino, picked and vinified together as a single parcel rather than blended afterwards. Zamora's continental climate, with hot days and cold nights, gives ripe fruit and firm acidity, while the older, mixed plantings add complexity from the field itself. Including white grapes in the ferment lifts aromatics and softens the structure, a traditional method that produces a brighter, more perfumed red. Ageing is short, six months in oak barrels, keeping the wine fresh and fruit-forward. The colour is a lively cherry red. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry, plum and a floral, herbal lift. The palate is youthful and vibrant, with light tannin, juicy acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees in a standard red glass, with grilled pork, poultry or mushroom dishes.
