Description
Cellers Unió works in D.O. Montsant, the hilly Catalan region that wraps around Priorat in northeastern Spain. Perlat Garnatxa is made from Garnacha, the area's signature grape after Tempranillo, grown on poor soils of slate and granitic sand that force the vines to dig deep and keep yields low. The warm Mediterranean climate ripens the fruit fully, while altitude and cool nights preserve acidity, which is why Montsant Garnacha combines ripe fruit with freshness and a clear mineral signature. The 2024 spends ten months in oak barrels, where measured oxygen exchange rounds the tannins and adds a frame of spice and a touch of vanilla without overwhelming the fruit. It is a deep cherry red, showing ripe plum and dark red berries, liquorice, dried garrigue herbs and a stony, peppery edge. The palate is full and warm at 14.5 percent, with supple tannins and a savoury, mineral close. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, decanted briefly if young. It is built for grilled and roasted red meat.
