Description
Celler Sanroma is a Catalan family project in Vilarrodona, Tarragona, where the Sanroma Calaf family has made wine for four generations. Rustic, Catalan for rustic, is built from Macabeo, the workhorse white grape of inland Catalonia, here treated to make a low-intervention orange wine that sets out to express place. The grapes are given skin contact, which draws colour, light phenolic grip and texture from the skins, while the wine then spends two months on its lees in stainless steel. That lees ageing adds body and a fine savoury depth without the oxidative weight of barrel, and the steel keeps the fruit fresh and the colour bright. At 10.5 percent this is a light, low-alcohol style made for early drinking. The colour is pale gold. The nose shows ripe apricot, lemon and green apple with white flowers, and the palate is dry and lightly textured, with citrus peel, pear and a saline, fresh finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
