Celler Pinol makes Raig de Raim in Terra Alta from organically farmed Garnacha, Carinena, Syrah and Merlot. Aged just four months in French and American oak, it is a bright, juicy everyday red of red berry, cherry and gentle spice.
Description
Raig de Raim is an organic red from Celler Pinol, a family winery in D.O. Terra Alta in Catalonia. It blends Garnacha Tinta and Carinena, the traditional Mediterranean pair of the region, with Syrah and Merlot. The vineyards are farmed organically on the limestone soils and warm, dry hills of Terra Alta, inland from the coast, where plenty of sun ripens the fruit fully while cool nights keep it fresh. This is an early-drinking style, aged only four months in French and American oak, just enough barrel time to round the edges and add a light touch of spice through gentle oxygen exchange without covering the fruit. The result is a bright, juicy red, vegan and organic, made for everyday drinking and good value. It is medium ruby, with red berries, cherry and plum over black pepper, dried herbs and a hint of vanilla. The palate is supple and fresh, with soft tannins, easy acidity and a clean, fruit-led finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, slightly cool, with grilled pork, roast chicken or tomato-based pasta.
