Celler Credo builds And The Winner Is from four historical Penedès varieties, Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada and the red Monastrell, farmed biodynamically. At 11 percent alcohol it is a low alcohol, minimal intervention white with citrus, green apple and a fresh herbal lift.
Description
And The Winner Is comes from Celler Credo in the Penedès, in Catalonia, and is farmed under organic and biodynamic principles with minimal cellar intervention. It is a blend of three historical white varieties, Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada, alongside a small share of the red Monastrell, all local to the region. Penedès sits between the Mediterranean and the coastal hills, and its calcareous soils and warm days tempered by sea breezes give ripe fruit with firm acidity. Xarel·lo brings structure and a faintly herbal, saline character, Macabeo adds orchard fruit and Parellada lends floral lift and freshness. Picking is timed for acid retention, which shows in the modest 11 percent alcohol. A low intervention approach keeps additions to a minimum, so the wine reads clean and direct. Expect a pale colour with green tints, a nose of lemon, lime, green apple and pear with white flowers, and a light bodied palate that stays crisp and dry through a saline, mineral finish. This is a wine for the table rather than the cellar. Serve well chilled at 8 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside raw and grilled seafood.
