Description
Vi del Mas is a red wine from Celler Comunica in Falset, Tarragona, within D.O. Montsant. The winery is the project of oenologists Pep Aguilar and Patric Murillo, founded in 2002 after more than a decade advising estates across the region. Their guiding aim is freshness above all, and to that end they took on the Mas d'en Cosme farm in Falset. This wine blends Garnacha and Syrah and is raised for six months in stainless steel rather than oak, a choice that keeps the fruit primary and the texture lively. Tank ageing with no wood preserves the wine's natural acidity and the perfume of the two grapes, while Montsant's mix of granite and slate soils and its cooler, hillier sites lend freshness and a mineral edge that temper the warmth of southern Catalonia. The colour is bright cherry red with a purple rim. The nose is lifted, with red berries, cherry and plum over rose and a wild herb note from the Syrah. The palate is medium bodied, juicy and fresh, with soft tannins, peppery spice and a clean finish. Serve slightly cool, at 15 to 16 degrees, with lighter meats and vegetable dishes.
