A continentally aged Uitvlugt single cask from Compagnie des Indes, twenty-one years old at 51 percent, dry and refined with pencil shavings, yellow fruit, mirabelle and spice over an anise-led, tannic, astringent finish.
Description
Bottled for Denmark by Compagnie des Indes, this Uitvlugt 1993 is a twenty-one year old single cask drawn from the Savalle column that ran at the Uitvlugt estate, bottled unsweetened at natural strength, 51 percent. Compagnie des Indes is respected for its terroir-led single casks, and Uitvlugt sits at the refined, fruity, lightly spiced end of the Guyanese map.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood and aged in cooler Europe rather than the tropics, this is a gentler, slower-developed style with lower losses. It noses on pencil shavings, yellow fruit, mirabelle plum and spice, with anise, cream and that graphite note on the palate, finishing on anise, young wood, tannins and a drying astringency. The continental ageing keeps it elegant and dry rather than thick, a poised, woody Uitvlugt for drinkers who prize finesse over the oilier heritage-still weight.
