Compagnie des Indes selected this single cask of Travellers distillate, a 2007 Belize column-still rum aged thirteen years and bottled at full cask strength of 62.1%. CDI's reputation is terroir-led and largely purist, and this sits at the drier, more serious end of their range, an unsweetened bottling aimed at experienced palates.

The ex-bourbon maturation shows in raisin, burnt sugar and cinnamon on the nose, while the palate turns full and roasted, with black pepper and gingerbread carried by genuine power. The finish is long and dry, all dark chocolate, prunes and fruitcake with a peppery, faintly bitter edge. With no added sugar to soften it, the strength and the roasted, spice-driven character do the talking, so a little water or patience pays off. For drinkers who like cask-strength Belize or drier, oak-forward rum, it turns the intensity up a notch.
