A fourteen year old TDL single cask from Compagnie des Indes, bottled for Perola without added sugar, rich with cocoa, roasted almonds, maple and a cooling menthol, a smooth and surprisingly deep single-cask Trinidadian at 45%.
Description
Compagnie des Indes, the respected terroir-led French bottler, selected this single cask of Trinidad Distillers Limited for Perola, a fourteen year old from the 2006 vintage. TDL distils light and clean, and CDI bottles its single casks naturally without added sugar, so this offers the fragrant Trinidad style with real depth rather than dosage.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows a generous nose of roasted nuts, almonds, cocoa and a cooling eucalyptus note, then a palate of maple, dark chocolate and roasted almond that drinks deliciously easily. The finish carries cocoa, almond, menthol and maple. At 45% it is smooth and sippable yet rewards time in the glass, opening into mint, red berries and dried fruit, a quietly impressive Trinidadian that shows how much character TDL's light spirit can carry with good ageing.
