An 8 year old TDL single cask from Compagnie des Indes at an easy 43 percent, fresh and minty with eucalyptus, yellow fruit, apricot and peppery oak, a newcomer-friendly Trinidad sipper from 2016.
Description
Compagnie des Indes, the terroir-led French bottler run by Florent Beuchet, presents this Trinidad Distillers Limited single cask from 2016. TDL is the living Trinidad producer within the Angostura group, making light, fragrant column-still molasses rum, exactly the smooth and approachable style on show here. It was bottled at a gentle 43 percent, an easy strength for relaxed drinking.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it captures the fresh, minty character that the best light TDLs offer: a fresh nose of eucalyptus, yellow fruit and floral notes, then a palate of menthol, pepper, spice and wood, finishing on dried apricot, mint, eucalyptus and oak. The candied fruit and minty freshness make it a lively, undemanding sipper, the lower proof keeping the heat in check. A friendly, fruit-and-mint introduction to Trinidad rum for those who like soft, easygoing pours.
