Compagnie des Indes is the respected, terroir-led French bottler led by Florent Beuchet, known for natural single casks across a broad range of origins. This Secret bottling is a single cask from an undisclosed Mauritian distillery, drawn from the 2010 vintage and made from molasses.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 42%, it drinks with an unexpectedly agricole-like cane character for a molasses rum. The nose is fresh and green with lemongrass, green apple and sugarcane, the palate brings creamy texture, fruit-schnapps brightness and grassy cane, and the finish turns bitter-edged with ginger and warm spice. This is a curious, freshness-led side-step rather than a deep, powerful pour, and its grassy, tangy profile leans toward mixed drinks such as a Ti' Punch as much as neat sipping.
