Description
CDI Port Mourant 2013 is a single cask from French house Compagnie des Indes, drawn off the iconic Port Mourant double wooden greenheart pot still and bottled at nine years old, cask strength, 57.6 percent. Compagnie des Indes is known for terroir-led single casks bottled at natural strength, and this is the unmistakable PM profile caught relatively young and undiluted.
The Port Mourant still gives the heaviest, oiliest Demerara character, and that shows here in molasses, liquorice and a medicinal, almost tarry edge across nose and palate, with creamy weight and a spicy, roasted, tannic finish. Maturation in port wood adds a dark fruit undertone without softening the still. This is an unsweetened bottling, so the intensity is all spirit and wood, a polarising and forceful style for drinkers who already love the PM signature.
