Leather, anise, tropical fruit and woodsmoke run through this 13 Year Old Port Mourant from Compagnie des Indes, a single cask off the double wooden pot still at a robust 58 percent, dry and classically PM.
Description
Compagnie des Indes bottled this single cask of Port Mourant from the 2002 vintage, thirteen years old. Port Mourant comes off the double wooden pot still, the greenheart icon behind old Navy rum, and its mark is the heaviest and most recognisable in Guyana, all oily anise, dark fruit and timber.
Molasses based and matured in port wood to a dry, unsweetened finish, it runs true to type. The nose is classic PM, sweetish and spicy with leather, herbs, sulphured dried apricot and tropical fruit esters, while the palate turns smoky with vanilla, anise and black tea. The finish is warm, herbal and smoky, with an interesting grassy thread. At 58 percent it carries plenty of intensity, a dry, characterful Port Mourant for drinkers who already know and want that singular still signature.
