Compagnie des Indes blends Dominican Republic and Trinidad rum in this Dominidad 2000, a fifteen year ex-bourbon cuvee at 43%, unsweetened and pouring cocoa, dark chocolate and mint over dried fruit and dry, mineral oak.
Description
Compagnie des Indes, the terroir-minded French house of Florent Beuchet, marries Dominican Republic and Trinidad rum in this 2000 vintage Dominidad, aged fifteen years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a natural, unsweetened 43%. It is a column-still cuvee built for balance between two Caribbean profiles.
The blend leans into a chocolate-and-mint signature that drinkers find distinctive. The nose offers cocoa, tropical fruit, mint and vanilla, the palate deepens into dark chocolate, dried fruit and oak, and the finish stays dark-chocolate rich with a minty, dry, mineral edge. A stracciatella note and a thread of honey run from start to finish, giving it a moreish lift without any added sugar doing the work. The result is a polished, dry daily sipper and a tidy example of how Compagnie des Indes lets a multi-island blend stay coherent and characterful.
