France's Compagnie des Indes is known for terroir led single casks, and this Clarendon fits the brief, a 2013 vintage bottled as a single cask at cask strength, 59.4%, with no sugar added. Clarendon's pot still marks bring real funk without going to the wildest extremes, making this a good middle ground for drinkers who like Jamaica estery but balanced.

Molasses fermentation and tropical ageing in ex-bourbon oak give a nose of ripe tropical fruit, polish and solvent, while the palate turns to vanilla, grapes and pepper over young wood. Menthol runs through it, and the finish is dry, faintly astringent and threaded with cinnamon. It carries its strength well and offers plenty to chew on neat, a characterful, honestly dry Clarendon that does not demand the patience of the oldest bottlings.
