CDI 2014

CDI 2014 is an 8 year Thai rum from the terroir-led bottler Compagnie des Indes, a single cask drawn from a 2014 vintage and bottled unsweetened at 43%. The house releases a vast and varied range, and this Thai selection offers a gentle, dry introduction to a still-unusual rum origin.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows a sweet, spicy and fruity nose with vanilla, and a palate of vanilla, toffee, gentle spices, herbs and dried dates. Body is light and the strength modest, so it drinks soft and balanced, very much in the lighter Foursquare mould, though the finish runs a little dilute and short. Certified unsweetened, it is an honest, pleasant pour best enjoyed as a relaxed sipper or an easy mixer rather than a bottle that demands close attention, a fine way to explore Thai rum without committing to anything heavy.
