Description
CDI Caribbean 2008 is a single cask island blend from Compagnie des Indes, distilled in 2008 and bottled unsweetened at 43% after ten years of ageing in ex-bourbon. CDI's single casks are presented naturally, and this one is a well balanced study in how different origins layer together.
A Jamaican component leads the way, soft banana and esters on the nose alongside cinnamon and sugarcane, with a Spanish style sweetness of brown sugar and caramel folded in. The palate turns spicy and dry, dark chocolate and woody notes over burnt sugar, while the finish brings black pepper, banana and a clear ester twist. Each origin shows itself in turn from nose to finish, making for a rounded, peppery blend with the Jamaican funk providing the closing note. Some might wish for a touch more strength, but it stays balanced, characterful and easy to appreciate.
