Description
Castillo de Monjardin Garnacha Vinas Viejas La Cantera is a red made by Bodegas Castillo de Monjardin in Villamayor de Monjardin, in D.O. Navarra, Spain. The winery sits in the centre of Navarre at the foot of the Pyrenees, a cool influenced but sunny zone with a long history shaped by French culture across the mountains. This bottling comes from the old vines of the La Cantera vineyard, planted to Garnacha Tinta. Old Garnacha vines crop low and ripen fully, giving concentrated, generous fruit and the grape's typical mid weight, supple structure, while the Pyrenean nights preserve freshness and lift. The wine ages six months in French oak barrels, a measured spell that rounds the tannins and adds a light spiced, vanilla frame through slow oxygen exchange without burying the fruit. At 14 percent it is ripe but balanced. The wine is deep ruby, with a nose of ripe red berry, plum, black pepper and a touch of liquorice. The palate is medium to full bodied, with sweet red and dark fruit, soft tannins, a warming spiced character and an earthy, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Good with roast lamb and grilled meats.
