Description
Caserío de Dueñas Fermentado en Barrica is a barrel fermented Verdejo from the D.O. Rueda, made at the Villaverde de Medina estate that supplies the Viña Mayor brand within Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894. The estate holds more than three hundred hectares of vineyard in a strong part of Rueda, with Almudena Alberca leading production. Rueda sits high on the Castilian plateau, where poor, stony ground and cold nights preserve acidity and give Verdejo its herbal, savoury character. This cuvée is fermented and then aged for eight months in French oak. Barrel fermentation and time on the lees add a creamy weight and a fine autolytic texture, while the oak brings vanilla, toast and a gentle grip that broadens the grape's usual green profile. The wine is a bright straw gold. The nose shows pear and white peach with fennel, vanilla and toasted bread. The palate is rounded and textured, the oak and lees carrying almond and hazelnut through a long, savoury finish. Serve it at 10 to 12 degrees in a broad glass.

Additional information
The oak and lees weight make it a good foil for roast chicken and grilled salmon. It also stands up to pork loin and hard, nutty cheeses such as aged Manchego. Try it with a creamy mushroom risotto.
