Casebianche is an organic estate inside the Cilento National Park, set between Mount Stella and the Tyrrhenian Sea. This Aglianico, named Cupersito, spends 24 months in large foudres and shows dark plum, firm tannin and a savoury earthiness.
Description
Casebianche was founded in 2000, with the first wines released in 2006, and farms 14 hectares organically within the Cilento National Park in Campania, between Mount Stella and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Aglianico is southern Italy's most structured red grape, late ripening and high in both acidity and tannin, and the Cilento sites combine coastal influence with hillside elevation, giving a long ripening season that builds phenolic depth while the diurnal range keeps the acidity firm. The grapes are worked by traditional methods and the wine is aged for 24 months in foudres, large neutral casks that allow slow oxygen exchange to soften the tannins and add complexity without imposing oak flavour. The long elevage rounds the grape's natural grip and develops tertiary character. Expect a deep ruby colour edging to garnet, a nose of dark plum, black cherry, leather, tobacco and dried earth, and a full palate with structured tannin, savoury depth and a dark chocolate edge on the finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It is built for roast and braised red meat, and rewards a few years in the cellar.
