Description
Cascina delle Rose is a family estate of five hectares in Barbaresco, run by fourth-generation Giovanna Sobrino and farmed organically. This Langhe Nebbiolo is the estate's fresher, earlier-drinking expression of the grape, aged on its lees rather than in new oak. Ageing on the spent yeast lees adds texture and a subtle savoury depth through the slow release of mannoproteins, while keeping the wine bright and direct. The Langhe hills bring calcareous marl soils and a wide day-to-night temperature swing that holds the grape's high acidity and perfume. The colour is light garnet. The nose is fragrant, showing red cherry, raspberry, dried rose and a touch of earth. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, with the variety's characteristic firm but fine tannin and a clean acid line, finishing on red fruit and a light savoury note. This is Nebbiolo to drink young rather than cellar. Serve at 16 degrees. It pairs with roast poultry, veal and mushroom dishes, and suits hard Italian cheeses.
