Description
Cascina delle Rose are a small family estate in the Barbaresco hills of Piedmont, and this white is made from Arneis under the Langhe appellation. Arneis is a native Piedmontese variety, once nearly lost, prized for its pear and floral character and its soft, gentle build. The vineyards sit on the marl and sandstone soils typical of the Langhe, and the hilly, continental setting with warm days and cool nights gives a wine that ripens to stone-fruit generosity while holding a fresh line of acidity. The wine is farmed organically and made in stainless steel, with no oak, to keep the fruit clean and the aromatics intact. Steel holds temperature low through fermentation and locks in the delicate pear, peach and blossom aromas that mark the grape. The colour is pale straw, the nose shows pear, white peach, white flowers and chamomile, and the palate is soft and rounded with a gentle almond bitterness and a fresh, clean finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
