Tragolargo Blanco is Casa Balaguer’s accessible Alicante orange wine, made from Moscatel and the local Merseguera. Macerated on its skins, it is bright amber and aromatic, with apricot, orange peel and a floral, herbal lift over a clean grip.
Description
Casa Balaguer, part of the Vinessens project run by Andrés Carull and Marta Ribera in Villena in the D.O. Alicante, makes this orange wine to show the local landscape in an accessible style. The blend pairs aromatic Moscatel with Merseguera, a native white grape of the Valencian coast that brings freshness and a herbal character. The vineyards sit on the warm, dry inland plateau of Alicante, with poor soils and a wide swing between hot days and cool nights that holds acidity in the fruit. The grapes are fermented with skin contact, which extracts phenolics, light tannin and amber colour from the skins to give texture and a savoury frame, while keeping the Moscatel's floral aromatics in play. The aim here is freshness and drinkability rather than heavy oxidative ageing. Natural, organic and vegan, made as a small garage style production. The colour is a bright amber. The nose shows apricot, orange peel and white flowers with a herbal, citrus edge, and the palate is dry, fresh and lightly grippy with a clean finish. Serve chilled at 10 to 12 degrees. Good with white fish, seafood and salads.
