Cartavio has distilled on Peru's northern coast for over a century, and this Ron Antiguo de Solera 12 sits squarely in the approachable Spanish style. Built from molasses on a mix of column and pot stills, it leans on barrel and blending rather than raw spirit character, the familiar route to the smooth, easy profile that defines this category. The solera label points to the oldest component in the marriage rather than a flat twelve years in wood, so it reads as a young rum carrying a thread of something older.

The nose runs to caramel, vanilla and a classic Spanish note of burnt sugar, with American oak firming things up. The palate is sweet and woody with dried fruit and a peppery edge, closing on bitter orange and a short, slightly drying finish. It is honest entry level molasses ron, soft enough for newcomers and comfortable alongside a cigar, though drier rum drinkers will notice how quickly the finish fades.
