A Canne Noire blanc from Guadeloupe at 60%, fresh and herbaceous with sugarcane, mint, green olive, lime and a peppery, anise-tinged bite, bright and bittersweet and built for a punchy Ti Punch.
Description
Carrere Montebello ZENGA BLACK EDITION is a single-variety white agricole from the Carrere distillery on Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, made entirely from black cane, the Canne Noire that gives the bottling its name. Distilled in 2022 from fresh-pressed cane juice and rested before bottling at 60%, it is a high-proof blanc in the traditional island mould.
The profile is fresh and herbaceous, leading with sugarcane, mint and green olive, then lime, white pepper, anise and a bittersweet citrus edge. The texture is oily and the palate medium-dry and spicy, finishing with chili heat and grapefruit. Distilled low to preserve the vegetal cane character, it carries the typical Montebello signature with the extra intensity of single-variety cane, and is at its best in a Ti Punch or mixed where its herbal snap can shine.
