A cask strength 10 year old Guadeloupe agricole from Montebello, bottled for Pierre Jean Villa, pressed from fresh cane juice in 2012 and aged in ex-Bourbon oak at a firm 48.2 percent.
Description
This is a Montebello agricole from the Carrere distillery on Guadeloupe, a 2012 vintage aged ten years in ex-Bourbon oak and bottled at cask strength for Pierre Jean Villa. Montebello is a traditional Basse-Terre producer working from fresh pressed sugar cane juice.
Ten years of warm climate ageing carries an agricole well past its stated age, layering vanilla, baking spice and toasted oak over the grassy, peppery cane core. Guadeloupe sits under the IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, but this is firmly in the dry, cane led tradition. Bottled strong at 48.2 percent, it should read dry and spice forward, a mature single estate agricole that takes a little water well.
