A twelve year old 2010 vintage of Montebello, distilled by Carrere in Guadeloupe from fresh cane juice and matured in ex-bourbon casks, a dry, aged agricole bottled at 44.6%.
Description
Montebello is a traditional Guadeloupe agricole made by the Marsolle family on Basse-Terre, distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice. This La Rencontre release is a 2010 vintage from the Domaine des Forges, aged twelve years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 44.6%, sitting under the island's IGP rather than the Martinique AOC.
Twelve years of tropical maturation gives real depth. Aged Guadeloupe agricole of this age typically shows the grassy cane core layered with vanilla, baking spice and toasted oak, gourmand and rounded yet still dry rather than sweet. A mature, characterful pour for drinkers who like their cane-juice rum well aged and full of wood-driven depth.
