Description
Carmelo Rodero 9 Meses is made by Bodegas Rodero in Ribera del Duero, from 80 hectares of vineyards spread across Pedrosa de Duero, Boada de Roa, Roa and Mambrilla de Castrejón in the Burgos heart of the appellation. The wine is 100% Tinta del País, the local name for Tempranillo, from vines between 5 and 20 years old. Ribera del Duero sits high on the Castilian plateau, and the wide gap between warm days and cold nights keeps the fruit fresh and the colour deep. The grapes are de-stemmed before fermentation, with maceration carried out at controlled temperature to draw colour and supple tannin from the skins. The wine then ages nine months in French and American oak barrels, a measured period that rounds the tannin through oxygen exchange and adds a frame of vanilla and sweet spice while keeping the fruit forward. The colour is bright cherry red. The nose shows juicy red and black fruit, cherry and blueberry, with a delicate spice. The palate is supple and approachable, with ripe tannin, fresh acidity and a clean finish. Serve at 16 degrees. It suits grilled meats, roast lamb and pork.
