Cargol Treu Vi is a textured Xarel·lo from Alemany i Corrió, the first garage winery in Penedès. Old vines over 70 years on Garraf limestone and a spell in barrel on lees give the 2024 a saline, mineral white with quiet depth.

Description
Alemany i Corrió was founded in 1999 by Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió, who met studying oenology in Burgundy and set up the first garage winery in Penedès. Cargol Treu Vi is their Xarel·lo, drawn from vines over 70 years old in the Garraf range, planted on limestone soils that give the wine its minerality and salinity. Old vines like these carry very low yields and root deep, concentrating flavour and holding freshness, while the calcareous soil and coastal climate keep the acidity firm. After harvest the grapes are pressed and the must ferments in barrels of around 300 litres, after which the wine is aged on its lees. Fermenting and ageing in barrel with lees contact builds texture and a subtle nutty depth as the lees break down and release mannoproteins, while the larger format limits the wood signature so the site speaks clearly. The colour is pale lemon. The nose leads with green apple, pear and lemon over dried herbs and a faint almond note, and the palate is dry, saline and textured, finishing on stony minerality. Serve it at around 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
The saline, textured palate works with white fish and shellfish, from grilled sea bass to clams and prawns. It also suits green salads and fresh goat cheese, where the minerality and gentle nutty note from the lees give it a bit more grip than a lighter white.
