An official Cardhu from the distillery, at 40%. An easy, honeyed fruit over a smooth body. Founded in 1824, it was famously built up by the Cumming women. Most of its make goes into Johnnie Walker, a little into single malt. Elizabeth Cumming, the Queen of the Whisky Trade, sold it to the Walkers in 1893. This is the home of Johnnie Walker in single malt form.

An official release of Cardhu, cask Batch Cs/cR.12.13, at 40%. Cardhu is a Speyside distillery near Knockando, founded in 1824 and the spiritual home of Johnnie Walker. Cardhu is one of the most famous of the women built distilleries of Speyside.

The spirit was run through the distillery's pear shaped stills on Mannoch Hill water, for a soft, pear scented make. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. No age is given, but vanillin vanilla and a soft pear are well integrated. The soft, sweet spirit takes cask flavour gently while keeping its pear and honey. A 2003 plan to sell a vatted malt under the Cardhu name caused an industry outcry, and was reversed. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Cardhu warehouses. Most of its make goes into Johnnie Walker, with a little bottled as single malt.

At 40% it is gentle, sweet and fruity. Honey, pear and a touch of nut, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft honey. The close is soft, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a smooth Speyside single malt from near Knockando.
