Cardhu from the distillery, at 40%. Cardhu is a soft, sweet Speyside single malt distilled near Archiestown since 1824. The Cumming family ran it for three generations before it passed to the Walkers.

The spirit was run through the distillery's pear shaped stills on Mannoch Hill water, for an easy, approachable spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Carrying no age, soft vanillin (vanilla) and a honeyed pear suggest a fair spell in cask. Most Cardhu is laid down for blending, a little kept back as single malt. Maturation in the gentle Speyside climate keeps the spirit smooth and honeyed. It sits among the gentle hills above the River Spey near Archiestown. Years in oak round the spirit, the apple and pear deepening to honey. Its malt has been the heart of the Johnnie Walker blends ever since. A gentle maturation suits the soft make, the fruit growing richer with time.

Bottled at 40%, it is rounded. Soft pear, apple and a gentle honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and honey sit behind the cask. The finish runs gentle, fruity and easy. This is the soft, sweet Speyside malt at the heart of Johnnie Walker.
