Description
Cardhu 12 Years Old is a blended malt Scotch from Distillery. It vats malts from several distilleries, Cardhu lending a soft Speyside heart. It sits among the gentle hills above the River Spey near Archiestown.
The Cardhu within gives a gentle apple and pear note. A bourbon barrel held it, lending vanilla and a little cream. Maturation in the gentle Speyside climate keeps the spirit smooth and honeyed. Refill oak lets the light, honeyed Cardhu character lead the way. The Cumming family ran it for three generations before it passed to the Walkers. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Cardhu warehouses. Water comes from springs on Mannoch Hill and the Lyne Burn. The soft, sweet spirit takes cask flavour gently while keeping its pear and honey. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and honey to the fore. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. Soft orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice run through it, smooth and approachable. Pear, honey and a creamy malt fill the middle. The finish is soft, sweet and gently fruity. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
