Cara Nord works high vineyards in the Prades Mountains of Conca de Barberà, Catalonia. This blend of Garnacha, Syrah and Garrut sees six months in French oak and stays light bodied and fresh, with red berry fruit and a herbal lift.
Description
Cara Nord was formed in 2012 by Tomàs Cusiné, Xavier Cepero and Eric Solomon, all with long experience and a shared interest in sustainable farming. The vineyards sit in the Conca de Barberà, surrounded by the high mountains and forests of the Prades range Natural Park, where altitude and cool nights slow ripening and preserve acidity and aromatic detail. Negre is a blend of roughly 42 percent Garnacha, 38 percent Syrah and 20 percent Garrut, the local name for Monastrell. The wine is aged for six months in French oak, a short pass that softens the tannins and adds a light spice frame while leaving the fresh fruit in the lead. The cool elevation keeps alcohol in check and gives the wine its lift. Expect a bright cherry red colour, a nose of red berries, fresh cherry and crushed Mediterranean herbs with a peppery note from the Syrah, and a light bodied palate that is juicy and supple with fine tannin and a savoury, herbal finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, lightly chilled if you like. It suits grilled white meats and charcuterie.
