An official Caperdonich, a 30 year old, at 51.1%. Tropical fruit, wax and a creamy oat run through it. Caperdonich was the sister distillery of Glen Grant, across the road in Rothes. Its four stills were dispersed when the distillery was dismantled. The distillery was demolished in 2011 to expand a coppersmith’s works. This is a rare Speyside single malt, silent since 2002.

Description
An official release of Caperdonich, a 30 year old, cask Batch CA/001, at 51.1%. Caperdonich made a light, fruity Speyside malt at Rothes until its closure in 2002. A pipeline known as the whisky pipe once carried its spirit across the road to Glen Grant.
This was made in tall copper stills for a light, fruity spirit, to build a clean, waxy, fruity character. Decades in ex-Bourbon oak drew out vanilla and a waxy depth. At an ethereal, fragile age the spirit turns delicate, sotolon lending maple and old oak as beeswax lingers. The tall, Glen Grant style stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. A few warehouses still stand, but the stillhouse and kiln are long gone. The cool Speyside air gave a slow, even maturation in the Rothes warehouses. Its character was close to Glen Grant but its own, less green apple, more cream, pear and mint. Closed in 2002 and later demolished, its profile is fixed for good.
At cask strength 51.1% it is full bodied. A creamy, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla fill the middle. The finish is deep, waxy and tropical. This is a rare Speyside single malt from a demolished distillery.
