An official peated Caperdonich, a 25 year old, at 45.5%. Waxy fruit under a wisp of smoke. It was built as Glen Grant No.2 in 1898 and closed in 2002. Its four stills were dispersed when the distillery was dismantled. A pipeline once carried its make across the road to Glen Grant. This is a rare peated Speyside malt, silent since 2002.

Description
This official peated Caperdonich, a 25 year old, cask Batch CP/001, at 45.5%. Caperdonich made a light, fruity Speyside malt at Rothes until its closure in 2002. Seagram bought it in 1977, and Pernod Ricard closed it in 2002.
This was distilled from peated malt for a gently smoky spirit, to build a lightly peated, fruity character. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the spirit lead. Through the evaporative decades the oils concentrate, lactones and esters folding into mango and beeswax. The tall, Glen Grant style stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. Refill oak lets the soft, fruity Caperdonich character lead the way. It was rarely bottled as a single malt in its lifetime, so most come from independents. After closure the site was sold to the coppersmith Forsyths, who demolished it in 2011. The cool Speyside air gave a slow, even maturation in the Rothes warehouses. The distillery is gone, demolished in 2011, so what sleeps in cask is all there is.
At an easy 45.5% it is light. Soft pear and cream under a gentle smoke, with a gentle oak sweetness. The texture is waxy, the gentle smoke threaded with fruit. The finish is long, fruity and gently smoky. This is a peated single malt from a silent Speyside distillery.
