An official Caperdonich, a 25 year old, at 48%. Tropical fruit, wax and a creamy oat run through it. Water came from the Caperdonich Burn, the secret well above Rothes. The distillery was demolished in 2011 to expand a coppersmith’s works. With the distillery gone, every bottle is from a finite, dwindling stock. This is the creamy, fruity ghost of Glen Grant’s sister.

Description
A 25 year old Caperdonich, a distillery release, cask Batch CA/002, at 48%. Caperdonich distilled a creamy, fruity Speyside malt at Rothes before closing in 2002. A few warehouses still stand, but the stillhouse and kiln are long gone.
Distilled in tall stills with their spherical condensation zone, for the light, creamy, fruity make Caperdonich is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the spirit lead. Through the evaporative decades the oils concentrate, lactones and esters folding into mango and beeswax. Years in oak round the spirit, the pear and cream deepening with age. It was extended to four stills in 1967, run by only a couple of workers. Its spirit went largely into blends such as Chivas Regal and Royal Salute. It is named, like the burn, from the Gaelic for the secret well. Refill oak lets the soft, fruity Caperdonich character lead the way. With Caperdonich demolished, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.
At a full 48% it is bold yet fruity. Cream, orchard fruit and a gentle spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla fill the middle. It finishes creamy, fruity and waxy. This is a rare Speyside single malt from a demolished distillery.
