    700ml / 48%
    Single Malt

An official Caperdonich, an 18 year old, at 48%. A creamy Speyside fruit, all pear, vanilla and a mint lift. Rarely bottled in its lifetime, most Caperdonich comes from independents. It made a creamy, fruity Speyside malt, distinct from its sister Glen Grant. This is a waxy, pear scented malt from a demolished distillery.

This official Caperdonich, an 18 year old, cask Batch CP/005, at 48%. Caperdonich was the quiet sister of Glen Grant, a Rothes distillery now demolished. It reopened in 1965 to feed Glen Grant's booming Italian trade, and took the Caperdonich name in 1977.

It was made in tall copper stills for a light, fruity spirit, to build a clean, waxy, fruity character. Decades in ex-Bourbon oak drew out vanilla and a waxy depth. In the oxidative middle years oxidation draws out waxy tropical fruit, vanillin and lactones fully expressed. Years in oak round the spirit, the pear and cream deepening with age. It was extended to four stills in 1967, run by only a couple of workers. Long ageing turns the fresh pear towards mango, beeswax and a polished oak. A pipeline known as the whisky pipe once carried its spirit across the road to Glen Grant. With Caperdonich demolished, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.

At a natural 48% it is full and oily. Tropical fruit, wax and a creamy oat, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is waxy, the fruit carried on a creamy body. The finish is long, fruity and waxy. This is a creamy, tropical Speyside single malt of real age.
