Capcanes Peraj Ha’abib is a barrel aged kosher Pinot Noir from Celler de Capcanes in D.O. Montsant. Made by this long established Tarragona cooperative under strict kosher rules, it shows red cherry, raspberry, a floral note and an earthy, savoury finish.
Description
This Pinot Noir is part of the Peraj Ha'abib kosher range from Celler de Capcanes, a cooperative founded in 1933 in the village of Capcanes in the Falset area of Tarragona, with 125 members farming around 250 hectares across D.O. Montsant. The winery has produced kosher wines since 1995, made strictly in line with Jewish religious law, which means the entire process is handled by observant cellar workers. Montsant sits in a warm, dry Mediterranean climate with poor soils of slate, granite and clay around the Priorat heartland, conditions that ripen Pinot Noir, an early and delicate grape, while the cooler vineyard sites and altitude help retain its acidity and aromatic lift. The wine is barrel aged, with the oak giving a slow oxygen exchange that rounds the tannins and adds a light spice and vanilla frame without masking the fruit. It is medium bodied, with red cherry and raspberry fruit, floral and earthy notes and a savoury, gently grippy finish. Serve at around 15 to 16C in a wide bowled glass; it pairs naturally with duck, roast poultry and mushrooms.
