This Caol Ila, the bottler Lady of the Glen, at 58.3%. A coastal smoke runs to lemon, olive oil and a peppery lift, with plum and red berry from the cask. Its tall stills give a lighter, cleaner island spirit. The distillery sits below a steep brae on the shore. This is one of the most characterful of the Islay malts.

Description
A 10 year old Caol Ila from the bottler Lady of the Glen, from cask 302613, bottled at 58.3%, one of 300 bottles. Caol Ila takes its name from the Gaelic for the Sound of Islay. Malt comes from the Port Ellen maltings on the south of the island.
This was worked from peated malt for the lighter Islay style, for a smoke more elegant than heavy. An unusual cask gave the spirit a distinctive, fruity twist. Integration sees eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) fold into the spirit, the medicinal smoke gentler now. A gentle vanillin sweetness from the oak balances the coastal phenols. It was founded by Hector Henderson and later passed to the Distillers Company. Tall stills and a clean cut give the spirit its oily, lemony lightness. The clean, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while holding its citrus and smoke. Cool, damp warehousing slows the loss of the angel's share over the years.
At a hearty 58.3% it carries real weight. Peat smoke, citrus and a soft oil, with plum and red berry from the cask. It is clean and coastal, the peat and lemon to the fore. It finishes smoky, oily and bright. This is a maritime, lemony Islay single malt.
